Sheila E. to headline An Evening with Cedric the Entertainer and Friends gala benefiting the Rosetta Boyce Kyles Women’s Pavilion at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, MO (June 20, 2017) – Comedian and actor Cedric the Entertainer announced today that famed musician, Sheila E. will headline the fourth annual An Evening with Cedric the Entertainer and Friends gala. The event, benefitting SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital is hosted by St. Louis natives Cedric “The Entertainer’ Kyles and his sister, Sharita Kyles-Wilson, will be held Saturday, October 21 at the Peabody Opera House.
Travis Capers, president of SSM Health St. Mary’s says, “We are grateful to our sponsors and to Cedric, Sharita and the Kyles’ family for their commitment to SSM Health and to bringing in top national talent each year. Music icon Sheila E., who after more than 30 years in the business, is a perfect example of a woman living life to the fullest and on her own terms.”
Capers added, “Funding from this event makes it possible for SSM Health St. Mary’s to be the first medical facility to provide this particular level of comprehensive women’s health services in the Metropolitan area. Each day, our award-winning medical teams are advancing techniques, providing cutting-edge medical care and improving outcomes for women in traditional areas of obstetrics, oncology and a variety of disease states including depression, cancer and heart disease.”
In 2016, the hospital’s commitment to providing a specialized health care facility for women and families became more visible to the community with the dedication of the upcoming Rosetta Boyce Kyles Women’s Pavilion at SSM Health St. Mary’s. The pavilion is named after Cedric’s mother, who lost her courageous battle with cancer in 2015.
Sheila E., (Escovado) gained respect in the 80’s for Latin rhythms and heart-stopping beats supporting some of the most popular songs of the times. She stepped out front with 1984 songs like the #1 hit, “The Glamorous Life,” written by the late musician, Prince, and “The Belle of St. Mark,” which she penned for The Glamourous Life album. She and Prince teamed up for “A Love Bizarre,” which debuted on his Paisley Park album in 1985.
Today, Sheila E. continues to be, quite literally, the driving force behind show stoppers like Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé. In September 2016, Sheila E. and author Wendy Holden, released the memoir, “Sheila E. The Beat of My Own Drum.”
